Amazon Web Service – Cloud Service

Amazon Web Service – Cloud Service

In the old days, imagine if a company wanted to do something new or innovative in the technological space. They required setting up a personal data center, a place to host servers, and then an IT team to look after it. Physical maintenance of any data center is not a joke. It takes excessive power, backups, temperature control (as machines run hot), Manpower, and security. No wonder, lots of efforts in terms of resources, time, energy, and cost goes into the maintenance of hardware and software required to set an infrastructure. That used to be the biggest obstacle for many startups and companies who did not have resources to build this entire infrastructure.

Then came in the picture, AWS- Amazon Web Services

In the early 90s, Amazon started as a giant e-commerce player, and AWS grew out of its own need to build that kind of infrastructure for itself.  CEO Jeff Bezos once said, “One of the ways to get out of a tight box is to invent your way out”.

In 2006, AWS started to offer IT services to the market, based on web services, now a day’s known as cloud computing. Now, instead of building the IT infrastructure companies can easily rent up from AWS, lowering the barrier to entry for innovators and entrepreneurs. They can rely on AWS; its secure, cloud-based platform makes its infrastructure valuable and cost-effective.

Amazon web service (AWS) is a subsidiary of Amazon.com that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms at very affordable prices, therefore making customer base strong from small companies such as Pinterest to big companies like Netflix. It is the most comprehensive and widely accepted cloud platform in the world with over 20+ geographical regions in 200+ countries.

  • Famous Companies that use AWS:
  •  Kellogg's
  • NASA
  • Expedia
  • Adobe
  • Comcast

  • Major Benefits of AWS
  • FLEXIBILITY
  • COST EFFECTIVE
  • SCALABILITY
  • SECURITY
  • GLOBAL NETWORK
  • STRICT ADHERENCE TO COMPLIANCE AND GOVERNANCE

  • Top Competitors of AWS
  • Goggle cloud platform
  • Microsoft Azure
  • IBM cloud
  • Alibaba cloud
  • Dell Technologies Cloud

Despite being tough competition in the market, AWS holds 80% of the total market share. In fact, in 2020 CEO Bezos announced passing $10 billion in revenue in a single quarter for the first time.

   Value of AWS Certification: -

AWS certifications are much sought after credentials today in the IT world. They are plenty of certifications offered by Amazon, and the Popular in- demand Certification is Associate Solution Architect.

Now, before going further about AWS, let’s first understand,

  • What is Cloud Computing?

In simple words, it is the use of remote servers on the internet to store, manage, and process data rather than a local server. There are 3 categories in cloud computing:

  • SAAS (Software as a service)

It allows companies to rent up software services without having to purchase them, which reduces the extra expenditure of the company drastically, since they are already installed on the cloud server they can be quickly deployed and therefore saves time.

  • PaaS (Platform as a Service)

It allows developers to build, run, and manage applications without having to build and maintaining the infrastructure, typically associated with developing an app.

  • IaaS(Infrastructure as a Service)

It allows companies to rent servers, storage space, etc. from a cloud provider.

When one talks about AWS, it consists of all three but more inclined towards infrastructure as a service, moving ahead let’s take a look into AWS Domains in which it offers services:

Main domains of AWS with their respective services: -

  • Compute

It is used to process data on the cloud by making use of powerful processors that serve multiple instances at a time.

Service offered- AWS EC2, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, AWS Elastic Load Balancing, AWS Lambda, and AWS Autoscaling.

  • Storage and Content Delivery

The storage as the name suggests is used to store data in the cloud, this data can be stored anywhere but content delivery, on the other hand, is used to cache data nearer to the user to provide low latency.Services offered- S3 AWS, Amazon Cloud Front, Amazon EBS, Amazon Glacier, AWS Import/ Export Snowball, AWS Storage Gateway.

  • Database

The database domain is used to provide reliable relational and non- relational database instances managed by AWS.

Services offered- Amazon Aurora, Amazon RDS, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Elastic Cache, AWS Data Pipeline, and Amazon Redshift.

  • Networking

It included services that provide a variety of networking features such as security, faster access, etc.

Services offered- VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) AWS, AWS Direct Connect, AWS elastic Load Balancing, Aws Elastic Network Adapter, and Amazon Route 53.

  • Management Tools

It includes services that can be used to manage and monitor your AWS instances.

Services offered- Amazon Cloud Watch, AWS Cloud Formation, AWS Cloud Trail, AWS Command Line Tool, AWS OpsWorks, Trusted Advisor.

  • Security and Identity

It includes services which can be user authentication or limiting access to a certain set of audience on your AWS resources.

Services offered- AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Key Management Service

  • Application Services

It includes simple services like notifications, emailing, and queuing.

Services offered- Amazon SES, Amazon SNS, and Amazon SQS.

  • Miscellaneous Services- AWS cloud9, Amazon Marketplace Web Service, Amazon Fulfillment Web service, Amazon Historical Pricing, and Amazon Mechanical Turk.

The list does not end here, in fact apart from the above – mentioned services AWS offers a plethora of services in sectors like Analytics, Deployment, Mobile service, Blockchain technology, IoT, Artificial intelligence, Machine learning, etc.

AWS promises to provide all these services with full security and technical assistance backup. Therefore, despite being highly scalable and fast, the data is secured, and the user has full control over access management. It is cost-efficient and smart, which lets the user focus on what matters the most i.e. Business and Customer. And top of that AWS trying to offer more and more services and continuously evolving with time.
